Washington, D.C. - Congressmen Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and Sherwood Boehlert (R-NY) today announced that Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego has been awarded a $50.8 million contract from the U.S. Navy to improve the communications capabilities of the MH-60R and MH-60S multi-mission helicopters. "This contract once again demonstrates that our military recognizes Lockheed Martin - Owego as the premier leader of defense construction projects," Hinchey said. "I'm delighted that Lockheed Martin was awarded this $50.8 million contract, which will also help to lay the groundwork for future contracts."
Boehlert said, "This contract is tremendous news for Lockheed Martin - Owego and the U.S. Navy. Lockheed Martin is a highly successful corporation, with a long-standing record of producing safe, quality products for our military. This contract is proof that Lockheed Martin is a premier manufacturer of integrated communications capabilities for our warfighters." Jeff Bantle, vice president and general manager of Multi-Mission Solutions for Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego said, "These communications improvements will continue to enhance the war fighting capabilities of the MH-60 aircraft, primarily in the littoral regions. The enhancements also will enable MH-60 aircrews to operate seamlessly with other warfighters in the air and on the ground." The MH-60R Multi-Mission Helicopter, or Romeo, is the next generation of the successful Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System (LAMPS) MK III SH-60B. Romeo, along with the MH-60S helicopter, comprise the U.S. Navy's Helicopter Master Plan for the next century. The MH-60S, or Sierra, is fulfilling the vertical replenishment mission of the CH-46 helicopter. The Sierra will also take lead in assuming the armed helicopter role and organic mine countermeasures mission. Sierra will serve with its sister model, the MH-60R (Romeo). Both helicopters are designed for growth, and are highly adaptable to future missions. Lockheed Martin is the systems integrator for the MH-60R and provides the Common Cockpit avionics suite, which is common to all MH-60R and MH-60S helicopters. Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation designs and manufactures the MH-60R and MH-60S aircraft and is responsible for the mechanical and electrical modifications on the airframe.
