Funds Will Allow Existing Program To Expand Its
Community Service, City Revitalization Efforts

Binghamton, NY - Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) award of $199,999 to Binghamton University.  The funds, which come from the Community Outreach Partnerships Centers (COPC) program, will go to the university's Center City Coordination (C3) Project, which is an initiative designed to help boost the city's revitalization efforts.  Due to a prior commitment, Hinchey was unable to attend today's ceremony to announce the funds.

"I am delighted that Binghamton University has been awarded these new federal funds, which will allow the school to continues its significant contributions to revitalizing the city, improving the overall quality of life, and creating new opportunities for residents and business owners.  This award both validates the critical community development work Binghamton University's C3 program is doing and ensures its continuity.  COPC is a very competitive federal program and I am glad that HUD recognizes the effectiveness of Binghamton University's work.

"By focusing on the city's neighborhoods most in need of revitalization, Binghamton University is doing its part to ensure that all residents get to experience the greatness of the city on an equal level.  I'm delighted to have played a role in securing these funds and hope to secure additional money from the federal government for this program in the future."
