Washington, D.C. - The deadline for applying to Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) for a nomination to a military service academy is Friday, October 27. Nominations will be made for the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy and U.S. Naval Academy. Applications and supporting documents must be received at Hinchey's Ithaca office by that date in order to receive consideration.
"Each year my office receives applications from many well-qualified young men and women who want to honorably serve their country in the armed forces," Hinchey said. "It is my hope and expectation that this year will bring us more outstanding candidates, but the first step is to ensure that all applications are received by Friday, October 27."
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives may only nominate residents of the district they represent. U.S. Senators may also make nominations for residents of the states they represent.
Interested applicants must also apply directly to the academy of their choice to be considered for an offer of appointment. Each academy has its own application process in addition to and separate from that of nominators such as Hinchey.
