STATEMENT: The Army has a significant shortfall in necessary ammunition.
During hearings in late September 2000 on the Fiscal Year 2001 defense budget, the Chief of Staff of the Army testified that the Army had a shortfall of ammunition of $3.3 billion.
In a December 2001 letter, the Chief of Staff wrote, "the Army's ammunition
shortfall has grown since my testimony last year."
