ARMY CONTINUES TO FACE CRITICAL AMMUNITION SHORTAGES

STATEMENT:  The Army has a significant shortfall in necessary ammunition.

 

* * * FACTS * * *

    During hearings in late September 2000 on the Fiscal Year 2001 defense budget, the Chief of Staff of the Army testified that the Army had a shortfall of ammunition of $3.3 billion.

    In a December 2001 letter, the Chief of Staff wrote, "the Army's ammunition shortfall has grown since my testimony last year."
 

* * * ACTION * * *

    Provide the funding necessary to eliminate the Army's ammunition shortfall.
