Washington, D.C. – Congressman Duncan Hunter
(CA-52) today was named as a member of the House Select Committee on Homeland
Security by the Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert. The primary responsibilities
of the committee will be to oversee the newly created Department of Homeland
Security and coordinate the activities of the 12 different House committees
which have jurisdiction over this department.
"I am very honored to be named a member of
this committee," said Congressman Hunter. "America faces many new challenges
that must be met with a commitment to ensure our nation is safe, both at
home and abroad. I look forward to working with my colleagues towards
this important goal."
Congressman Hunter is currently Chairman of
the House Armed Services Committee, , where his knowledge and expertise regarding
national security matters make him uniquely qualified to serve on the new
Committee on Homeland Security. Congressman Hunter plans to work closely
with Homeland Security Chairman, Congressman Chris Cox of California, towards
fulfilling the committee's objectives.
