House members take up anti-consolidation crusade

A bipartisan group of five House members filed a measure aimed at nullifying a controversial Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule that would end a 32-year-old ban on radio and television broadcasters owning newspapers in Seattle and other of the nation's largest media markets.

On the day that two members of the Federal Communications Commission who oppose loosening media-ownership rules were in Seattle to hear opinions of local residents on the issue, U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) urged the five-member commission to hold an official meeting in the Evergreen State.
