Statement on DOD Decision to Delay 767 Tanker Contract
May 25, 2004
In response to Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfelds decision to delay, for at least six months, the proposed Air Force contract for Boeing 767 tankers, U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (WA-01) issued the following statement:
Although this is a disappointing decision by the Bush Administration, it does not change two fundamental truths. First, the Air Force simply can no longer rely on an archaic tanker fleet. Second, the 767 is a ready-to-go, fantastic platform perfectly suited for the job. One day, one way or another, I believe that our Air Force will be flying our 767's. We remain committed to seeing that day as soon as possible.
