Inslee Observes Progress of the Superfund Clean-up at the Wyckoff Site on Bainbridge Island

September 19, 2002

Inslee and Mike Cook, facing one another, discuss the machinery behind them.

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee met with Superfund Director Mike Cook to learn about the technology being used by the Environmental Protection Agency to clean the soil at the Wyckoff site. Cook described the process in which high pressure steam is used to wash pollutants out of the contaminated ground. Inslee's legislation to make the area adjacent to the current clean-up site into a Memorial for Japanese Americans sent to internment camps in WWII recently passed the House of Representatives.
