Inslee Secures Funding for First District Transportation Priorities

29 July 2005

U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee announced that he has secured much needed funding for transportation priorities in the First Congressional District under a bill that the House passed today. The federal funding is part of the Transportation Equity Act (TEA-21), which the President will soon sign into law. The bill authorizes $286.5 billion in federal funding for highways, ferries and transit programs through the year 2009.

Said Inslee, "Our transportation infrastructure is decaying and the projects that have lasted us since the 1950s are now reaching the end of their lifespan. Communities from Bothell to Mukilteo to Kitsap County will see much needed traffic relief from this bill. Congress has finally recognized the value of the transportation priorities that Senators Murray, Cantwell and I have advocated for in the First Congressional District. My constituents would rather be at home with their families than stuck on I-5 in traffic."

State Transportation Secretary Doug MacDonald commented, "We greatly appreciate Congressman Inslee 's working with community, labor, and business leaders across Puget Sound to identify and prioritize funding for projects that will make a positive difference for travelers of all modes, and which will help boost Washington's economy by keeping our goods and products moving efficiently to markets in the state and across the nation."

Inslee secured the following funding for First District projects in the TEA-21 bill:

In addition to these requests, Inslee worked with U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen to secure the following funding in the bill:
