Clinton County
Clinton County was formed from parts of Centre and Lycoming Counties in 1839. Due to its many canals, Clinton County was named for the canal-building governor of New York, Dewitt Clinton. The county's 903 square miles are made up of quaint small towns, rugged hills and valleys, family farms and lots of forestland. The county seat of Lock Haven sits on the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and serves not only as the county's economic engine but as a great base for outdoor excursions and activities. Manufacturing is the number one industry in Clinton County, producing
chemicals, furniture and adult hygiene products. Clinton County
also produces lumber, coal and refractories. Lock
Haven University and the Lock
Haven Hospital are other large employers. Lock Haven is also
home to the Piper Aviation
Museum. Visit
