Potter County
Known as "God's Country," Potter County is a great place to explore friendly small towns and experience the great outdoors. Potter County is covered with forested, rolling hills and has numerous state parks offering a multitude of activities. The 264,000 acre Susquehannock State Forest, traversed by the 85-mile Susquehannock Trail, is full of whitetail deer, wild turkey, black bear and other wildlife. Just north of Scenic Pennsylvania Route 6 the Allegheny, Genesee and Susquehanna Rivers all have their origin. Potter County was created in 1804 from part of Lycoming County and named for General James Potter, a Revolutionary War hero. Coudersport, with it's quaint charm and classic main street, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a superb example of a 19th Century small town. It was incorporated as a borough in 1848 and named for Amsterdam banker Jean Samuel Couderc. An
early center of the lumbering and tanning industries, Potter County
is home to the Pennsylvania
Lumber Museum. At the annual Woodsmen's Show and Bark Peeler's
Convention, there are tests of lumberjack skill, live music and
fabulous fun for the whole family. Fall in Potter County offers a spectacular rainbow of colors with hills covered in brilliant red, orange and yellow foliage, sparkling blue skies, and crisp, crystal-clear nights. During the winter months, Potter County offers snowmobiling, hunting and hiking, as well as the steepest ski slope in the East at Ski Denton. With its beautiful landscape and many festivals and celebrations, Potter County has something for every member of the family. Visit
