Warren
County, known as "Kinzua Country," was created in 1800 from
parts of and Lycoming Counties and named for General Joseph Warren. Warren
County's mountains, valleys, forests and streams provide a beautiful natural
showcase and are the perfect setting for all types of outdoor activities.
The 1,035 square miles of this rural county are known primarily for timber,
oil and manufacturing.
Founded in 1795 along the Allegheny River, the county seat of Warren serves
as the northern gateway to the Allegheny National Forest.
The Victorian town of Tidioute, also on the Allegheny River, hosts
the annual Pennsylvania
State Fishing Tournament each September. It is also home to the Grandin Well,
the first successful oil well in which drilling tools and explosive charges were
used.
The Kinzua Dam and
Allegheny Reservoir on the eastern border of Warren County provide tremendous
scenery and abundant recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, water
skiing and swimming. From the Kinzua Dam to Warren, the Allegheny River boasts
some of the best trout fishing in the Eastern United States. And the Allegheny
River Islands Wilderness features seven islands with tremendous canoeing
and back-country camping. In the Hearts
Content Natural Scenic Area, you can even stroll under a canopy of trees
that were growing centuries before our nation was born.
Be sure to visit in January when the annual Warren
Winterfest provides a week's worth of activities ranging from sled dog races
to snow sculpting and ice carving. Whether you are searching for outdoor adventure,
beautiful scenery, quaint small towns or just a relaxing getaway, Warren County
has what you're looking for!
