Subcommittee Assignments Will Allow Congressman Kirk To Focus On Key Local Transportation Concerns

Deerfield, IL -- Congressman Mark Kirk (R-Ill) announced today that he has been assigned to two subcommittees of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that will allow him to focus on key local transportation issues. Kirk will join the aviation subcommittee and the highways and transit subcommittee.

"As a member of the aviation subcommittee I will focus on matters relating to civil aviation, including airport improvements and aviation safety, security and noise," said Kirk. "We will also address the deregulation of airlines and support for the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board."

Kirk has often noted that the highway and aviation gridlock we suffer from in our communities threatens our quality of life. Illinois is America’s transportation hub. Protecting our economic future, quality of life and environment depend on updating our transportation infrastructure to meet the growing needs of both the city and suburbs.

"As a new member of the highways and transit subcommittee, my primary focus will on METRA," said Congressman Kirk. "Improving METRA’s service will also help honor our commitment to the environment as the nation implements stricter provisions of the Clean Air Act and laws governing the transportation of hazardous materials."

Congressman Kirk will also sit on the Armed Services Committee where subcommittee assignments have not yet been announced.
