Deerfield, IL -- Congressman Mark Kirk (R-IL) announced today that he has been assigned to the Budget Committee of the House of Representatives. Kirk also announced he will join the Military Personnel subcommittee and the Military Procurement subcommittee of the Armed Services Committee.
"As a member of the Budget Committee we will establish congressional budget priorities for a balanced budget," said Congressman Kirk. "I look forward to our work to help save Social Security and Medicare. Given the size of the Federal surplus, we will also outline a tax relief plan to stimulate the economy."
Congressman Kirk’s assignment to the Military Personnel subcommittee will enable him to focus on the improvement of pay and benefits for our military family.
"With the other members of the Military Personnel subcommittee, I will work to improve quality of life issues for all men and women in uniform," said Kirk. "We must get our sailors and soldiers off food stamps and update our military to meet the new national security challenges our country faces abroad."
Members of the Military Procurement subcommittee have jurisdiction over annual authorization for the development and purchase of military weapon systems and components.
