May 16, 2008 Langevin Votes No on Iraq War Funding, Yes to Help Veterans - Congressman Jim Langevin yesterday voted to force a change in the President’s Iraq war strategy, while providing much needed assistance to our returning troops. H.R. 2642, the Supplemental Appropriations Act for Fiscal Years 2008-2009, is now headed to the Senate without an amendment to provide funding for continuing operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. Many Republicans voted “present” on the amendment, rather than “yea” or “nay,” which allowed anti-war Democrats to defeat the $162.5 billion in unrestricted emergency spending for Iraq and Afghanistan.

May 16, 2008 DHS Announces Infrastructure Grants - Congressman Jim Langevin today announced $1.2 million in critical infrastructure grants for various agencies in Rhode Island. The Infrastructure Protection Activities (IPA) grant program works to strengthen security at ports and enhance transit, trucking and intercity bus systems. Funds provided will be used to prevent, protect against, respond to and recover from terrorist attacks, major disasters and other emergencies.

May 14, 2008 Langevin Helps Sow New Farm Bill - Congressman Jim Langevin today voted to support H.R. 2419 - the Farm Nutrition and Bioenergy Act of 2007. This $289 million Conference Report reauthorizes various federal agriculture, nutrition and conservation programs through Fiscal Year 2012. This measure passed by a vote of 318-106, a veto proof majority.
