Homeland Security

I share the concerns many families have about the potential for terrorist attacks on our country.  The safety and security of our homes and country is one of my highest priorities.  I support homeland security policies that will keep our country secure today.

Here is what I have done to increase homeland security:

• I voted to increase defense spending that will give our military the weapons they need to take the fight to terrorists rather than wait for terrorists to bring the fight to our shores.
• I voted to strengthen security at our border with more border patrol agents, immigration inspectors and customs agents.  These security improvements will help prevent illegal immigration, drug smuggling and potential terrorists from entering our country.
• I voted for the Maritime Transportation Antiterrorism Act to ensure that terrorists cannot use our water ports to sneak weapons of mass destruction into our country.
• I voted to increase funding to assist local firefighters in getting the training and equipment they need in order to respond to terrorist attacks, should those attacks ever occur again.

Homeland security now, not later, is my goal. I will continue to take the necessary steps to make your home and our country safe.
