What does President Obama’s recovery package mean for our state?
- Saves or creates 8,500 jobs in Washington state's 2nd Congressional District, sets a foundation for economic recovery and long-term growth, and helps our neighbors hit hard by the recession
- Extends unemployment benefits to an additional 44,000 workers in Washington state who have lost their jobs
- Invests $739 million to modernize Washington state roads, bridges, transit and clean water infrastructure to help get our economy moving again
- Invests $60 million to build and repair ferry boats, terminals, and other facilities; Washington State Ferries is eligible for grant funding
- Increases the Bonneville Power Administration's borrowing authority by $3.25 billion to help modernize Washington state's electricity grid, integrate wind power and other renewable energy sources and create local jobs
- Increases the buying power of food stamps by 13 percent to help 636,000 Washington state residents feed their families
- Provides $150 million to help food banks across the country keep their shelves stocked to serve the increasing number of Americans who need their help

- Provides $100 million for Impact Aid to help school districts across the country that serve a large number of military families, including Marysville and Oak Harbor
- Strengthens Washington state law enforcement with over $36 million in Byrne Justice Assistance grants, helps keep cops on the street to protect our communities
- Helps keep higher education within reach during the recession by providing over $249 million in Pell Grants for Washington state students
- Provides a tax cut for 95 percent of working Americans
