Congressman Sander Levin

Congressional Page Program

Return to Services

High School Juniors throughout the 12th Congressional District are encouraged to apply for the summer 2009 Congressional Page Program. They will serve for three-weeks, from July 5 to August 1, 2009.

High school students learn first-hand about Congress; living together right near the Capitol, and working as support staff for the House of Representatives. There are no classes held during the summer session, and students do not receive academic credit for their participation.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years old by the beginning of the Page term
  • Students who have just completed their high school sophomore or junior year.
  • There are no exceptions to these requirements.

How to Apply

  • Democratic Page Application (including Essay)
  • Signed Student Consent Form (Requirements for Being a Page)
  • Signed Declaration of "Parental Consent" Form
  • 3 Letters of Recommendations from school officials, community or religious leaders.

The above information must be completed and returned to the district office at 27085 Gratiot Avenue, Roseville, Michigan 48066, no later than Tuesday, May 12, 2009. Students may contact our office for an application.

A review board will then evaluate applications and recommend one applicant from the 12th Congressional District. While the program is highly competitive, I would encourage students to apply for this first hand learning experience.

Page Program Duties

House Pages have the unique privilege of interacting with all facets of U.S. Capitol. They serve predominantly as messengers between the house and senate, carrying documents between Members’ offices, committees and the Library of Congress.

All Pages are paid approximately $1, 500 on the last day of every month. Automatic deductions will be made for both federal and state taxes, as well as Social Security and residence hall fees. These fees consist of an initial $100 security deposit and a monthly $400 fee. The monthly fee includes five breakfasts, six lunches and five dinners per week and is automatically deducted from the Page’s salary.
