Davis Celebrates National Day of Prayer May 01, 2003

-- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis released the following statement regarding the National Day of Prayer.

"One of the most important daily routines in our lives is prayer. I believe it is appropriate that we set aside a special day to reflect on our personal relationship with God."heir families and loved ones. Our troops have once again proved they are the most elite military in the world."

"During the past year our great country has experienced many ups and downs. We are in the final stages of a war in which we have toppled a dictator, but lost some brave men and women in uniform in doing so, thousands are out of work, and corporation corruption has run rampant. Now is an appropriate time for us to set aside this special day to turn to God and ask for guidance and wisdom."

The National Day of Prayer predates the founding of the United States when the Continental Congress issued a proclamation setting aside a day of prayer in 1775. In 1952, Congress established an annual day of prayer and, in 1988, that law was amended, designating the National Day of Prayer as the first Thursday in May.
