WASHINGTON, D.C. -- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis (TN-4) released the following statement in response to President Bush's address to the nation, which marked the conclusion of major combat in the war with Iraq:
"I was pleased to hear that the major combat operations in Iraq have concluded. My hopes are that our brave men and women in uniform will soon be able to reunite with their families and loved ones. Our troops have once again proved they are the most elite military in the world."
"We must take time to thank and pray for the families who have lost loved ones in this conflict. Their supreme sacrifice has brought about this moment and helped free a long-suffering people."
"As this chapter of the Iraqi conflict concludes we must not forget the rest of the book remains to be written and a happy ending is far from assured. We must try to build a consensus among our allies to increase the number of countries involved in the re-building process of Iraq."
