Rep. Davis Announces Grant for Martin Methodist College September 12, 2003

-- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis today announced that the U.S. Department of Education has awarded Martin Methodist College a five year grant for $1,685,319. The grant will be awarded under the Education Department's Strengthening Institutions Program, which was created under the Higher Education Act of 1965.

The Strengthening Institutions Program was created to improve institutional management effectiveness through improved technology along with student retention and success by improving and expanding curricular offerings in sciences, business, and health professions through computer technology and scientific equipment linked with training faculty and professional staff in the use of current technology for instruction and academic support functions.

"This grant will help Martin Methodist take the next step in their quest to educate our future leaders," Davis said. "I am glad that I can provide a service such as this to one of the districts great institutions."

"Education is one most liberating influences in ones life. My hopes are that with these added resources, the students at Martin Methodist can build upon their education and become a driving force in the world."

"This grant provides an enormous opportunity to Martin," said Martin Methodist President Dr. Ted Brown. To have the support of the Department of Education as we seek to expand our offering and refine our technological capabilities will assure the success of our efforts. We are deeply grateful to Congressman Davis and his talented staff for their encouragement and support."
