Davis Announces $329,800 Grant to Combat Methamphetamine in Marion September 29, 2004

-- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis today announced a $329,800 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) to be used by the Marion County Sheriff's Department to fight the spread of methamphetamine.

"Unfortunately, the abuse of meth in the 4th District has grown during the past few years," said Davis. "We are fighting back and these desperately needed funds will help our dedicated law enforcement in Marion County do their jobs safely and effectively."

The grant was awarded to help cover expenses associated with training and technical assistance, equipment purchasing, officer overtime, community outreach campaigns, and other approved costs. Marion County was invited to apply for funding because of the severity of the methamphetamine problem in the area as determined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Drug Enforcement Administration data.
