LINCOLN DAVIS STATEMENT ON HOUSE IRAQ SUPPLEMENTAL May 11, 2007

-- U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis released the following statement after voting last night for the House Iraq Supplemental, which no longer had language setting a date certain for withdrawal.

"My opposition to setting a date certain for withdrawal still stands. I think it is bad policy to set a permanent date without waiver provisions. I did not vote for the Iraq Supplemental the House passed last month, which the President ultimately vetoed, for that reason."

"President Bush has had a blank check and policy card for five years in Iraq. I am saddened it has taken a new Congress to hold the Administration accountable and to ask the tough questions, which frankly should have been raised years ago. In simple terms, benchmarks are warranted and appropriate to request. I believe this bill provides support for our troops, sets benchmarks established by the Administration, and will allow us to budget further needs in the regular budget process."
