DAVIS RECOGNIZED BY BLUE DOG COALITION FOR WORKING TO PROTECT THE COUNTRY'S FISCAL STABILITY AND NATIONAL SECURITYJuly 24, 2007

-- The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition today recognized Congressman Lincoln Davis of Tennessee for his outstanding commitment to the fiscal stability and national security of the United States by naming him "Blue Dog of the Week." Since he entered Congress in 2003, Representative Davis has worked together with his Blue Dog colleagues to bring fiscal accountability and responsibility to the federal government.

"Rep. Lincoln Davis has dedicated his time and efforts in Congress to preserving the fiscal stability and national security of the United States," said Rep. Mike Ross (D-AR), Blue Dog Co-Chair for Communications. "He should be recognized for his efforts to advance important initiatives such as pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) budgeting and H.Res.97, a measure which is aimed at restoring fiscal accountability to the funding of the war in Iraq. The Blue Dog Coalition commends Rep. Davis for his leadership in putting results ahead of partisanship in order to solve our nation's fiscal problems."

"I am proud to be a member of the Blue Dog Coalition," Davis said. "From education to the budget, energy independence to the crisis in the Middle East, the Blue Dogs work hard to find fiscally responsible solutions to the problems facing hard working families in America. As a member of the Blue Dog's Majority Whip team, I will continue to support and write legislation that makes government work better for Tennessee's Fourth District and the Country."

Due to the efforts of Rep. Davis and his Blue Dog colleagues, the House rules package for the 110th Congress was passed in the first 24 hours of the new session and includes key principles of the Coalition's 12-point plan to restore fiscal responsibility and accountability to the federal government. Specifically, the package requires pay-as-you-go budget discipline, known as "PAYGO," with no new deficit spending. Early in the year the Blue Dog Coalition also introduced H.Res.97, "Providing for Operation Iraqi Freedom Cost Accountability," a measure which is aimed at restoring fiscal accountability to the funding of the war in Iraq. Key provisions of H.Res.97 were recently included in the Fiscal Year 2008 National Defense Authorization bill.

The fiscally conservative Democratic Blue Dog Coalition was formed in 1995 with the goal of representing the center of the House of Representatives and appealing to the mainstream values of the American public. The Blue Dogs are dedicated to a core set of beliefs that transcend partisan politics, including a deep commitment to the financial stability and national security of the United States. Currently there are 47 members of the Blue Dog Coalition.
