Congressman Davis Meets with Tennessee's First Lady Andrea Conte April 11, 2008

Congressman Lincoln Davis met with Tennessee's First Lady, Andrea Conte, this week to discuss issues important to Tennesseans.

First, Ms. Conte addressed concerns about the Edward Byrne Memorial State and Local Law Enforcement Assistance Grant Program, or "Byrne Grants" as they are typically known. The Byrne Grants are a partnership among federal, state, and local governments to create safe communities. The Bureau of Justice Assistance, through the program, is authorized to award grants to states for the purpose of improving the criminal justice system-with emphasis on violent crime-and to enforce state and local laws. Congressman Davis used his time with the First Lady of Tennessee to reaffirm his support for the Byrne Grant program.

In addition, Ms. Conte came to Washington to discuss budget cuts of up to $100 million for the Department of Children's services in Tennessee. Congressman Davis committed to helping see this decision reversed.
