Congressman Davis Proud of Lawrenceburg Public Elementary School's RecognitionSeptember 10, 2008

U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis has received word that Lawrenceburg Public Elementary School has been named one of the U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools, a recognition bestowed to only 320 schools across the nation.

"I am very proud of the teachers, staff, students, and parents of Lawrenceburg Public," said Congressman Davis. "To be singled out as a top performing school in the country is no easy task. It takes dedication and an intellectual curiosity to challenge oneself on a daily basis. With a new school year already upon us, I pray for the wisdom and drive to keep pushing our students to be the best they can be at home and school."

Dr. Gari Lynn, Lawrenceburg Public School principal remarked, "I would like to thank our faculty, staff, students, parents, and central office staff for making this award possible. It has truly been a team effort and we are very thankful for receiving such a prestigious award."

The U.S. Department of Education instituted the Blue Ribbon Schools Program in 1982. The program honors schools whose students achieve at very high levels or make significant progress in closing the achievement gap. The Secretary of Education will invite the principal and a teacher from each school to visit Washington, D.C. on October 20-21 for an awards ceremony.
