Congressman Davis Takes Seat on Appropriations CommitteeDecember 11, 2008

Yesterday, the Democratic Steering Committee nominated Congressman Lincoln Davis to the House Appropriations Committee. The House Democratic Caucus later approved the appointment.

"I am eager to serve my district in this new capacity," said Congressman Lincoln Davis.

Congress considers at least 11 appropriations measures every year. These provide funding for everything from national defense and education to homeland security and crime prevention. These measures also fund general government operations such as the administration of federal agencies. The Appropriations committee controls about 40% of total federal spending provided for a fiscal year.

"This committee assignment gives our district the first chance since Congressman Joe L. Evins held an Appropriations seat and retired in 1976 to ensure that the necessary priorities in our district and our state are receiving the attention they deserve," Davis said.
