Campbell County

Created 1806 from Anderson and Claiborne counties; named (reportedly) in honor of Arthur Campbell (1743-1811), member of Virginia House of Burgesses, Revolutionary and Indian wars officer, commissioner for negotiation of Indian treaties.

Did You Know?U.S. Army (ret.) Four Star General Carl Stiner co-authored "Shadow Warriors" with Tom Clancy. General Stiner was Commander in Chief of the United States Special Operations Command during Operation Desert Storm. He also commanded forces during the Achille Lauro hostage rescue and the 1989 invasion of Panama. He is a resident and native of Campbell County.
