Morgan County

Created 1817 from Anderson and Roane counties; named in honor of Daniel Morgan (1736-1802), American Revolutionary War officer who commanded the troops that defeated the British at Cowpens, and U.S. congressman from Virginia.

Did You Know?The 1999 film 'October Sky', starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Laura Dern, and Chris Cooper, was filmed in Morgan County.

Historic Rugby, a cooperative, class-free, agricultural community, which was founded in 1880 by British author Thomas Hughes is located in Morgan County. The National Trust calls it one of the most authentically preserved historic villages in America.
