Williamson County

Created 1799 from Davidson County; named in honor of Hugh Williamson (1735-1819), surgeon general of North Carolina troops in the American Revolution, North Carolina legislator, member of the Continental and U.S. Congresses.

Did You Know?One of the Civil War's bloodiest battles took place in the city of Franklin. On November 30, 1864 the Battle of Franklin began. It has been referred to as the "Gettysburg of the West" by many historians. There were over 9,000 causalities.
