Lincoln, Pryor, and Berry Announce $550,000 in Rural Development Funds for Pocahontas

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry announced today that the city of Pocahontas will receive a $550,000 Rural Development grant from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The city also will receive a $558,000 loan from USDA. These funds will be used to expand existing sewer lines to serve new users in rural areas.

"These federal dollars will help provide critical water infrastructure improvements to the community," said Lincoln.  “I commend the residents and local leaders of Pocahontas for working to secure these significant Rural Development investments to provide sewer access to additional rural residents."

“Access to clean, affordable water is vital to the health and economic well-being of Pocahontas residents,” said Pryor. “I applaud local leaders for seeking these funds and ensuring that critical investments in our infrastructure are expanded.”

"Strong water infrastructure is essential for economic growth and development in Arkansas," said Berry.  "This funding will help upgrade the existing infrastructure for the city of Pocahontas. I commend the local officials for taking the initiative to secure these federal dollars, which will improve the quality of life for the residents of the community."

USDA Rural Development grants support public facilities and services, promote economic development, and offer technical assistance to help address the diverse and unique needs of rural communities.
