MIKE'S WEEKLY MESSAGE

A Season of Thanks

This week, Arkansans will travel near and far to be with their family, friends and loved ones to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.  Indeed, as a nation, it is evident we have much for which to be thankful this holiday season.  It is important to realize how fortunate we are to live in a nation where we have the right to voice our individual thoughts and ideas, where we can use our talents to establish a brighter future for ourselves and our families, and where all citizens have the right to worship a religion of their personal choice.

I ask that all Arkansans take a moment this Thanksgiving to remember not only our great founding fathers for laying the groundwork of our liberties, but also to the young men and women, sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, who are fighting in Iraq, Afghanistan, and around the world.  Our thoughts and prayers are with these brave soldiers who cannot be with their families this Thanksgiving, as they fight to protect America’s freedom and fight to keep the world safe.

I also hope that you join me this holiday season and remember those who may not have family or friends with whom to spend the holiday meal.  On Wednesday my wife, Holly, our children, Sydney and Alex, and I continued our annual tradition and delivered meals with the Meals on Wheels programs to seniors in Garland County who are unable to leave their homes and cannot cook for themselves.  I hope during this season of thanks you will not only reflect for which you are truly thankful, but also reach out to a neighbor or to a community member in need, for that is the true meaning of the holiday.
