RSC RELEASES “CONTRACT WITH AMERICA: RENEWED”
House Conservatives’ Budget Based on 1995 “Contract With America” Budget

Washington D.C.- Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN), chairman of the House Republican Study Committee (RSC), and Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX), chairman of the RSC’s Budget and Spending Taskforce, together with other RSC members will introduce a balanced budget based on the 1995 “Contract With America” budget today.

Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN)
“With record deficits and debt, the time has come to level with the American people; we are not living within our means.
“Today House conservatives unveil our budget for 2007: ‘The Contract with America: Renewed.’
“The ‘Contract with America: Renewed’ is a balanced budget based on the budget passed by the House of Representatives in 1995 as part of the ‘Contract with America.’ That budget passed the House with all but one Republican vote and this budget deserves the same level of support.
“While not every member of the RSC endorses every proposal in this budget, House conservatives believe that this Republican Congress should return to our 1994 roots of fiscal discipline and reform.”
Congressman Jeb Hensarling (R-TX)

“In 1994 Republicans launched the Contract with America pledging to limit the growth of government and balance the budget.  Today House conservatives renew our commitment to the reform agenda that gave Republicans control of the House for the first time in 40 years - an agenda that was supported by 109 present Members of Congress.

“American families must balance their budgets each and every year and they should expect no less from their government.  By renewing our commitment to the American people, the RSC budget restores our pledge to enact a balanced budget and revives our dedication to the principle of limited government.”
