Congressman Andrews and Senator Menendez to announce $3.7M USDA Rural Development funding for National Park water improvements

National Park, NJ – Congressman Rob Andrews, Senator Robert Menendez, USDA Rural Development State Director Howard Henderson and National Park Mayor Patricia Rossiter announced the Borough of National Park as recipient of loan and grant funds totaling $3,685,000 through our Water and Environmental Program.  The $2,685,000 low interest loan and $1,000,000 grant will enable the Borough to provide an adequate and dependable water supply to the residents at an affordable rate.

These funds will be used to finance improvements to the Borough’s existing water system.  The existing standpipe will be removed and replaced with a 200,000 gallon elevated storage tank.  They will also be constructing a new water treatment plant, improve an existing well, purchase a new generator and install security fencing.

“Improving the community’s water infrastructure allows us to address major issues such as having access to healthy drinking water and keeping our environment safe while providing the tools needed to rebuild our economy,” said Congressman Andrews. “This project will generate local jobs and provide real incentives for businesses to relocate and grow right here in South Jersey.”

"This federal investment will not only help the Borough of National Park provide residents with an adequate and dependable water supply, it will also bring new construction job opportunities," said Senator Menendez. "Providing economic opportunities while ensuring that our families and children have safe and clean water supply is pivotal. In these difficult economic times, investments like these are investments in our future."

Mayor Patricia Rossiter noted, “As a mall community, the burden to the residents for a project such as this can be insurmountable. The program that USDA has and the assistance that they are providing to National Park make this desperately needed project not only feasible but affordable.”

“Through these projects, we are advancing the Obama Administration’s economic goals to rebuild and revitalize the nation’s infrastructure,” said Howard Henderson.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made to these rural communities to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
