Andrews Announces $250k for Camden Job Training Center
Congressman Andrews announced today that Respond, Inc., a nonprofit community service organization, will receive $250,000 in new federal funding for renovations at its Camden City job training center. Awarded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), this funding is expected to create as many as 40 new construction jobs to improve Respond’s New Worker Job Development and Training Center. Additionally, by investing in the job training center, this funding will help pave the way for thousands seeking to obtain the skills needed to enter today’s workforce.
Specifically, the funding will be used to expand the Center’s fire suppression system and building egress, so that the Center will not only fulfill city building codes but have the resources to respond to the recent influx of trainees. With the unemployment rate continuing to soar, more and more people have turned to Respond’s training center to enhance their work skills in areas such as automotive technology and culinary arts.
“Without the EDA’s help, Respond would be forced to significantly limit its trainees because their building could not sustain the increase demand for their services,” said Congressman Andrews. “This isn’t just about the 40 people who will now get a pay check because of these improvements. It’s about the thousands of future workers who can now develop the skills needed for higher-wage jobs because of the Center’s increased capabilities.”
Congressman Andrews is will continue to secure federal funding for organizations like Respond Inc. that work to enhance and promote the economic independence and general welfare of the residents of South Jersey.
