South Jersey to Benefit from Cooper-Rowan Initiative
HADDON HEIGHTS, NJ – Congressman Rob Andrews (D-NJ) is proud to support the exciting partnership between Cooper University Hospital and Rowan University in their mission to bring a new four-year allopathic medical school to the City of Camden. This initiative, which Governor Corzine called for yesterday through an executive order, will be an added resource for the region, building on South Jersey's already strong standing as a leading academic and health care community.
"Governor Corzine has generated an entirely new source of growth for South Jersey, drawing upon two of our area's finest institutions," said Rep. Andrews. "I applaud Rowan University President Donald Farish, Cooper Health System President & CEO John Sheridan, and Cooper Chairman of the Board George Norcross III as they work together to develop a leading health care campus in the City of Camden."
"South Jersey's reputation in academic and health care excellence has taken an exciting step forward and Speaker Joe Roberts and Sen. Steve Sweeney should be recognized in this effort for generating fresh opportunities for Camden's future," Rep. Andrews continued.
The new medical school will serve as a key component toward Camden's revitalization, generating an immediate demand for construction jobs as well as bringing a new wave of professionals and students into the city to work and reinvest in the community. Additionally, the new facility will provide area students with a highly advance, cutting-edge learning center, thus raising the medical education standards and improving the quality of health care for area residents.
