Congressman Andrews Supports Stimulus Bill as an Effort to Transform Our Economy
On January 28, 2009, Congressman Andrews voted in support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, a measure to create and save 3 to 4 million jobs over the next two years, and give our economy jumpstart toward long-term growth. Specifically, this legislation gives 95 percent of American workers an immediate tax cut and invests $825 billon in carefully-targeted programs to improve our infrastructure, education, health care, and technology as an effort to stimulate job growth and transform our economy toward lasting success.
With New Jersey's unemployment at 7.1 percent and rising, Rep. Robert Andrews has dedicated his efforts toward securing jobs while working to provide struggling families with much needed health care and unemployment relief. Sources estimate that New Jersey may be granted over $15 billion of the Stimulus Bill. This funding will prove to be extremely significant for South Jersey, specifically by improving transportation and infrastructure, there will be an immediate demand for jobs. Also, this funding will alleviating pressure on the state budget thus allowing for less state cuts. Additionally, the provisions on tax relief and extension of benefits will lessen the burden on those striving to support their families, and the extra payments will help increase spending locally and stimulate the economy of South Jersey.
As our country faces its highest unemployment rate in 16 years, Congressman Andrews continues to work for struggling families during the current tight job market by supporting legislation that creates jobs, expands unemployment and health benefits, and makes college more affordable.
