Congressman Andrews visits Toth Technologies to announce Federal Defense subcontracts that preserve and create local jobs
Pennsauken, NJ - On Monday, April 27, Congressman Andrews visited Toth Technologies, a Pennsauken based company that has achieved lasting stability during difficult economic times. As an effort to withstand the recession following WWII, the Toth family built a company that has emerged from an economic crisis and grown into a successful and thriving enterprise. Today, our nation's economic restraints parallel those of the late 1940's and due to its reliance on a long-term, skilled workforce and in part because of its subcontracting opportunities with the Federal government, Toth Technologies has been able to preserve and generate local jobs for over 50 years.
As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, Congressman Andrews has supported specific defense programs that have funded companies like Toth Technologies in their mission to provide America's warfighters with the most advanced equipment available. Annually, Toth Technologies receives about $5 million in government funding, the majority of which is provided indirectly through Federal subcontracts. Most recently, Toth Technologies has received funding for the production of a highly advanced navigation system called Global Positioning System III (GPS III). This project involves the creation of new ground stations and satellites that will improve America's mapping and land surveying technology so that civilian and military users will be able to navigate easier and more accurately. Also, Toth Technologies has recently received federal dollars to advance the Navy's Mobile User Objective System (MUOS), a satellite communication system that will increase narrowband communications capabilities for users worldwide. This technology is designed to significantly improve ground communications for U.S. and allied forces. Likewise, Toth Technologies has been contracted to develop and implement the Department of Defense's Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS). MEADS is a mobile air and missile defense system designed to combine superior battlefield protection with unprecedented flexibility, capable of countering tactical ballistic missiles while remaining mobile and transportable.
Rep. Andrews, who was recently selected to lead a special panel to address the ongoing challenge of defense acquisition reform, has stated, "during these economic times, it is vital that we ensure our defense acquisition system provides the best to our warfighters while making the most efficient use of the taxpayer's money."
Congressman Andrews is a strong supporter of the funding Toth Technologies has received, not only because federal dollars are being invested in the finest technology available to maintain our nation's security, but because of the overwhelming economic benefits that it creates. Despite the current economic crisis, Toth Technologies had its best year ever in 2008. Its record revenues allowed the company to preserve 40 jobs in Pennsauken and even expand, adding 6 skilled employees to work on these various defense programs. Toth Technologies has credited the Federal government, through its subcontracting opportunities, as a major contributor to its growth and they have even reported that this success may pave the road for them to double their workforce by 2014.
