| City of Newark - North Broad Street Redevelopment Project | |||
| Amount Requested: $12,000,000 | |||
| In order to leverage the private investment of the developer selected through the RFEI process, the City of Newark will undertake a series of infrastructure improvements to the Broad Street Station Area. This project will construct bike lanes in front of the station and realign Martin Luther King Boulevard and Orange Street, intersection improvements to Atlantic Street and Broad Street and traffic calming on Nesbitt Street and Sussex Avenue. It also will construct shared parking facilities near the station and pedestrian safety streetscape improvements. The North Broad Street Station area is governed by the recently adopted Living Downtown Plan and Broad Street Station Area Redevelopment Plan (both recipients of the 2009 New Jersey Futures Smart Growth Award). Both plans promote sustainable development and economic growth through the promotion of diverse land uses and increased density near transit. | |||
