Cornell University
305 Day Hall, Ithaca, NY 14853

Amount Requested: $1,000,000
This program with Texas A&M evaluates policy proposals of national significance to the dairy and livestock industries. Both USDA and Congress rely on this program for analysis of proposals that affect the dairy and livestock industries.

This grant is shared with Texas A&M -- approximately 40 percent of the funds come to Cornell to cover the salaries of three Ph.D. research assocites who maintain a nationwide database of representative farms used for dairy policy analysis. CPDMP has the market expertise and empirical tools to analyze a wide variety of dairy policy and regulatory options.  It also operates a National Extension Education Committee, which engages in applied research and extension, provides a connection to and voice for regional perspectives and interests across the US, and enables access to other dairy markets experts.  It develops educational materials and events about economic principles and characteristics of supplying milk and dairy products to regional, national and global markets.  It interprets market information and trends as well as estimates impacts of current or new policies intended to achieve fairness, access, availability and diversity in dairy markets. CPDMP works closely with USDA in analysis of dairy policy and regulatory and market stabilization efforts.
