Amount Requested: $1,100,000 The Food Safety Research Consortium (FSRC) works with non-profit groups, industry, and government, including the New York State Department of Health and New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, to conduct and coordinate food safety research and to facilitate the development and use of research knowledge and new approaches and tools to help the food industry and regulatory agencies in their efforts to improve food safety.
This funding request would support six researchers. Without federal funding, the consortium would lose the ability to maintain bacterial subtype databases and DNA fingerprinting capabilities. This would reduce the ability of industry and other partners to detect and eliminate contamination that can cause foodborne disease.
