Funds preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition and final design for a replacement of the 84-year-old Sellwood Bridge. The current bridge has a sufficiency rating of 2 out of 100 and is structurally and functionally obsolete. Vehicles over 10 tons are prohibited from using the bridge, which prevents buses, fire trucks, and most freight deliveries from using it. Without this project, the Sellwood Bridge will eventually need to be closed. Closing the bridge will remove a vital artery between Portland, southeast Portland, and Clackamas County communities that carries about 30,000 vehicles per day. The result will be longer commutes, increased congestion and air pollution, and economic hardship to Sellwood and other communities. This request is for completing preliminary engineering, right-of-way acquisition, and final design.
