The OR-99W/McDonald Street/Gaarde Street intersection project is a comprehensive multi-modal solution to the problems at this intersection that will include additional roadway capacity, including left- and right-turn lanes and auxiliary lanes on Gaarde Street and McDonald Street. OR 99W is a highway of statewide significance and a designated freight route that also serves as an important arterial through the City of Tigard. About 70,000 vehicles per day pass through this intersection, which creates a severe congestion problem and poses a barrier for pedestrians and bicyclists. These improvements will increase the intersection's capacity by over 30 percent and reduce many of the conflicts where collisions occur, as well as reducing congestion for local and through traffic.
