WASHINGTON, D.C. - Tallapoosa County law enforcement personnel should soon have a new cutting-edge device to help fight fires and better protect local citizens, Congressman Mike Rogers said today.
The lightweight device, known as a Rugged Night Vision Monocular Kit, will enable first responders to see objects or people at night or in other low light. This equipment is awarded by the Department of the Homeland Security and is worth $5,657.
“This high tech tool should be helpful to local rescue teams,” Rogers said. “I am delighted the Federal government has chosen to make these investments locally, and hope these devices will help support the ongoing efforts of Tallapoosa County law enforcement.”
Rogers said the device would be awarded to the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Department.
Rogers is Ranking Member of the Homeland Security subcommittee on Management, Investigations and Oversight. Funding for the program is administered under the FY06 Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP), which included an expanded selection of equipment and is overseen by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
