| WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-1) is inviting high school students to participate in the 2008 Congressional Art Competition. The winner's work will be transported to Washington, DC to hang on display in a corridor of the U.S. Capitol alongside winning entries from around the country for one year.
"I am proud to be part of the art competition and look forward to seeing the artwork of the students from the 1st Congressional District," said Berry. "This competition is a great opportunity for high school artists to have their work showcased to a national audience. We have a wealth of talent in the First District and I look forward to admiring all of the entries at this year’s competition."
The theme of this year's art competition is titled, "An Artistic Discovery" and is sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus. The winner of the competition and a parent will be invited to attend a ceremony honoring the artists in Washington in June and will be eligible for a $5,000 Honors Scholarship from The Savannah College of Art and Design. In addition, Southwest Airlines will provide the winner with three roundtrip tickets to Washington D.C. to attend the winner's ceremony. The finalists who are the first and second runners up will have their art displayed in Rep. Berry's Washington, D.C. and Jonesboro offices.
The winner will be chosen at a reception on Friday, May 2nd 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at Rep. Berry's Jonesboro Office located at 108 East Huntington Avenue.

Participants can either deliver or mail their artwork to Congressman Berry's office.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.
