Lincoln, Pryor, Berry Announce Fire Grants for Arkansas

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche L. Lincoln and Mark Pryor along with U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that Arkansas will receive federal grant funding for Arkansas fire departments through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

The Keiser Volunteer Fire Department will receive will receive $28,426 and the Imboden Fire Department will receive $43,700 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program for operations and safety, which include training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to fire stations.

"As first responders, local firefighters play an integral role in keeping our communities safe," said Lincoln. "This federal funding will provide our fire departments with the best training and equipment so they can protect families.  I will continue to do all I can to ensure that Arkansas receives the funds and resources we need to keep our state safe."

“Firefighters put their lives on the line to keep us safe, and it's important that we provide them with equipment and training they need to protect themselves as well,” said Pryor. “This grant will go a long way to help secure the safety of our communities.”

“Everyday our first responders put their lives on the line to keep us safe,” said Berry.  “The firefighters and first responders in rural areas often face unique challenges and they deserve to have the best tools and resources available to better serve their communities.”

The AFG grant program is funded through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  They provide fire departments and EMS organizations the tools, training, and resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel.  AFG will award approximately $500 million in competitive grants from FY 2008 funds.
