| WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that Farmers Electric Cooperative Corporation is the recipient of a $1,491,402.97 federal grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The funds will be used to help with recovery efforts from the January ice storm.
“January’s ice storm caused significant damage in our state,” Lincoln said. “In the days after the storm, our first responders and community members answered the call by assisting in the recovery response. I am pleased that the federal government is doing its part to help with cleanup efforts.”
“Cleaning up the damage and debris required considerable time and manpower,” Pryor said. “I’m pleased FEMA came through with more federal resources to help offset the costs the Farmers Electric Cooperative in Jackson County incurred.”
“The employees at Farmers Electric Cooperative Cooperation worked around the clock after the ice storm to restore power to thousands of homes and businesses,” said Berry. “The work they did is commendable and this funding will assist with the recovery efforts.”
The FEMA grant will help fund the repair of all storm-related electrical damage from Farmers Electric Cooperative’s distribution area in Jackson County.
