WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Marion Berry today announced that Mississippi County Arkansas Economic Opportunity Commission will receive $270,000 for the Healthy Start Initiative program. The funding will be used to support case managers who will continue to provide community-based outreach and recruitment as well as health education and advocacy to local families. In addition, the program will support outreach activities for at-risk girls in middle school and high school as well as several public health education campaigns focused on women's health issues.
“Education is key to helping students be successful in life. These funds will help young girls and their families learn how to stay healthy, safe, and strong. I’m pleased to see the federal government make this investment in our state,” said Lincoln.
“Educating students about responsibility and healthy choices early on will lead to a more productive future,” said Pryor. “This funding will help improve the quality of life for families in Mississippi County.”
"Access to quality, affordable health care continues to be a concern for too many Arkansans," said Berry. "This funding will help women and their families learn more about living a healthier lifestyle so that children receive a safe and healthy start in life."
