Lincoln, Pryor, Berry Announce $450,000 for Independence County

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Marion Berry (AR-01) today announced that Independence County will receive $450,000 in Rural Development funds from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).  The funding will be used to construct a Workforce Training Center adjacent to the campus of the University of Arkansas Community College.

“These funds will not only help residents of Independence County gain the skills and training they need for success, they will also help contribute to economic development throughout the region.  I remain committed to helping our state secure resources and funding to stay strong and competitive now and in the future,” said Lincoln.

“A well-trained and educated workforce is a catalyst for economic growth,” said Pryor.  “These funds will allow more Arkansans to acquire the skills necessary for personal and professional development in Independence County.”

"The key to increasing economic development in the region is by creating a highly skilled workforce," said Berry. "These funds will make a positive impact for the people and community of Independence County."

USDA Rural Development's mission is to increase economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for rural residents. Rural Development fosters growth in homeownership, finances business development, and supports the creation of critical community and technology infrastructure.
