WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Marion Berry (AR-01) and Vic Snyder (AR-02) today announced $908,408 for local law enforcement priorities in Arkansas. The money is allocated through the U.S. Department of Justice’s Bureau of Justice Assistance and funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The following communities will receive funding:
Marion County, $209,259
Yell County, $100,236
City of Marianna, $397,020
Lake Village, $201,893
“Our local law enforcement must have the proper resources, equipment, and technology to keep crime to a minimum. With this grant, they will be better equipped to help keep their communities safe for residents and visitors. I will continue to do all I can to ensure that Arkansas receives the funds and resources we need to keep our state safe,” said Lincoln.
“Local law enforcement is our first line of defense against violence, drugs and crime,” said Pryor. “I am pleased that these federal dollars will provide law enforcement with the tools and training necessary to keep our communities safe.”
“During tough economic times the demands our law enforcement officers face are more challenging than ever,” said Berry. “At a time when our police officers are forced to do more with less resources, this funding will help support their efforts to keep our communities safe.”
“It's important that we give our local law enforcement the tools they need to prevent and control crime,” said Snyder. “This funding will improve safety and increase the effectiveness of law enforcement in Yell County.”
The Bureau of Justice Assistance helps rural states and areas prevent and combat crime and provides for national support efforts, including training and technical assistance programs strategically targeted to address rural needs. |
